You should also plan to work toward human resources certification in North Carolina. This is not always required, but it is recommended if you intend to base your career on the HR field. There are two primary levels of human resources certification in North Carolina. The two levels are Professional in Human Resources and Senior Professional in Human Resources. There are eligibility requirements that you must meet in order to obtain certification. These requirements are based on the type of HR degree in North Carolina that you earned.

You are eligible for HR certification in North Carolina at the PHR level if you have four years of experience. If you have a bachelor’s degree, only two years are needed and if you have a master’s, you only need to have one year.

Certification at the SPHR level can be obtained with seven years of experience. This is reduced to five or four years with a bachelor’s or master’s degree respectively. As you can see, there are tremendous benefits to obtaining a higher degree.
