Another option if you are interested in a career in human resources is getting a human resources certification in New Jersey. There are basically two levels of certification: Professional (PHR) and Senior Professional (SPHR). Many people within the HR field work towards their certification while they are working in their job. The reason for this is that in order to be eligible for certification, you must have a certain number of years of experience in the field. This requirement is reduced if your HR degree in NJ is one of the higher level degrees.
HR certification in New Jersey can be obtained at the PHR level with just one year of experience if you hold a master’s degree. The requirement is increased two years for a bachelor’s degree and four years for an associate’s degree (or anything else less than a bachelor’s).
Human resources certification at the SPHR level can be obtained with four years experience along with a master’s degree. The years of experience that are required will increase to five for a bachelor’s degree and seven if you don’t have a bachelor’s degree. Magement professionals in other fields who would like to make a lateral move into the HR department also use this certification.
Many companies will require new HR staff to work toward this certification while they are working. However, the certification is usually recommended even if it is not required. It allows you to continue your education, builds your resume, shows that you are committed to a career in human resources and makes your market value soar.
